Peace

I admit it; I’m partial to peace roses. My parents had a bush growing in their yard when I was growing up. I love the pale yellow with a little touch of pink sunset. This is about the only rose bush in my yard that I haven’t killed. I live at the bottom of Lake Bonneville. It seems like the soil is nothing but cement in my yard the clay is so heavy. Several years ago my children gave me six rose bushes, one for each child. Well I killed three of them, rose bushes I mean. This spring I bought four large pots filled them with good soil and planted a rose in each of them. Hopefully they won’t die from drought in the summer or freeze over the winter. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. Wish me luck!

Radial Symmetry Patterns

I teach Kindergarten. I love this time of year. All my little chicks have begun to grow up. They now have independent work skills. The children had a wonderful time creating these patterns. I did a lot of modeling and then had the children practice a lot with plastic pattern blocks. Then when each student was able to construct a reasonable design with the blocks I let them recreate it using the paper pattern blocks. About the only help I gave the children was to help them to stay focused on what they needed to do next on their pattern.

Tulum 2008

My husband put this video together from a trip we took to Tulum with our daughter and her husband. We had a wonderful time. I wish I could have staid longer and explored more. We're trying to plan an other trip but things just don't seem to be working out at the moment.

Lillie's Quilt Update--The End is Near!!!!

Necessary tools for quilting, first I need a good movie. This happens to be the one I'm watching now. Each DVD contains 153 minutes!!!! Quilting thread, glasses (I can't see to thread the needle or see where I need to quilt without glasses), scissors, and needle nose pliers are a must. I also use surgical tape on my finger tips after I’ve been quilting several days in a row. Another important piece of equipment is a FAN! Sometimes it is hotter than Hades in the room I use for quilting.

I'm now down to the last TWO ROLLS of the quilt!!!!

Where else can you...?

Where else can you have a flower garden in your front lawn? Almost 100 years ago my great grandparents started building a summer home in the mountains to the east of where I live. After several tries their children built this little cabin. It has been described by some as a step up from camping out in a tent. For me this is the most beautiful place on earth. This is where I go to unwind after the school year has ended. Between the Weber River and the quaking aspens all the stress of the previous school year is washed away.

Where else can you walk down the stair for dinner with such a view?

Where else can you find history in sculptures and textures?

Where else can you enjoy such landscaping while walking to the neighbors?

And where else is your alarm clock a moose racking his antlers?

Back to the Salt Mine

For the past four weeks I have been on summer vacation. It was wonderful! Now the push is on until the end of the school year. The year doesn't end until July 2nd this year. Now that I've got several areas organized in my classroom I can concentrate on having fun with the children. Sometime in March and April the children find the education light switch and turn it on. They are able to work independently without teacher supervision. I can get out my picture box and have them write stories. We are in the process of addition to 10. I've spent the last week trying to organize ALL the stuff I have at school. What a mess! But the good side to this is that I’ve been able to find centers that the children will love. Because they are now mostly independent workers I can spend more time to work with small groups on areas where they might need special help.
