Whew!

The first two weeks of the new school year are over. I have 26 students in my morning class and 26 in the afternoon. Big classes. Oh well I guess I shouldn’t complain. At least I have a job.

This year is starting out a little different than the last 5 years. These children know how to get centers out and put them away without trashing everything. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. Maybe next week. I’ve put out about ten sorting centers for the children to work with. These centers are either store bought (transportation, dinosaurs, plastic fruit and vegetables, people, star fish) or homemade (colored pasta). I’ve been watching the children sort these objects into groups by color or shape. In the past I’ve had to worry about somebody eating the pasta or taking some of the store bought items home. These guys work together and on the whole cooperate with each other. I have a power point timer that I set and when it goes off they pick everything up and put it neatly away on the shelf. I only had to talk to them once about putting things away neatly and showed them what I wanted it to look like. I guess it was me saying that I needed to put some things away because there just wasn’t enough room on the shelf for everything I had out.

Yard Work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have this wonderful brown thumb. I plant something and if the bugs or snails don’t eat it I kill it. About the only thing that does VERY well in my yard are dandelions and binding weed AKA morning glory. If I don’t kill these plants maybe next spring I’ll have some pretty flowers.

After thinking about doing this for years we finally put in a cobble stone walk to the front faucet! No more jumping the mud puddle or balancing on the pipes! I really should have worn gloves. My hands are very rough from the bricks and the sand. Oh thank heavens for bag balm!

I need to get some Irish moss or mother of thyme to plant in the cracks and fill in the bigger holes.

One Happy Boy

My daughter brought me her little boy's crib blanket. He was going to get a "Big Boy" bed. The crib blanket was too small for the new bed. I took the blanket apart and redid to fit the new bed. Ben's smile tells how he felt. To bad I couldn't post the sound he made when he first saw his favorite blanket back.

Flower Fairies

Today I had three of my grandchildren over. This morning we made flower fairies. I've been trying to make fairies with them for three years now. Every time I have some of the grandkiddies over we run out of time. This time though We have all day.

Now if some of my other grand children want to make a flower fairy, come on over. I've got lots and lots of stuff all ready to go!

This is Spencer's fairy
That night when Spencer said his prayer he prayed that his fairy would love him forever. As long as his grandma loves him his fairy will love him. I think that will be forever and ever.

The Most Beautiful Place on Earth!

This weekend I went to my grandmother's family cabin. It has been a very wet spring and summer. The flowers were spectacular! I found all kinds of little treasures. There are times I find things in nature that just hurt to look at. Taking pictures of them is the closest I can come to recreating them. My great grandfather once said this was the most beautiful place on earth and we need to always take care of it. I think he was right.
